So Mallory and I attended the College Dem v. College Rep debate this evening. What an enlightening experience...!
The College Republicans were absolutely destroyed. Oliver Kiefer had a sane and measured response to every question. Ms. Miko, on the other hand, failed to answer a single question. (Edited to remove personal attack.)
RAND released a report - which was suppressed until now - regarding the military's ability to fight an insurgency. If we are to learn, it starts with the top. We cannot have this blind, goal-less, strategy-less doctrine eminating from the presidency downward. It's failed us and will continue to do so.
We have no diplomacy. We took a 5 year hiatus from discussing Israel - even considering 'carrots & sticks' in the region.
And now, we're continuing to use outdated platitudes and Americana to justify a system that continues to not work.
Our peace is fragile and based on temporary cease-fires called by insurgent leaders so they can fight among themselves. Let's not be mistaken: Fighting us has political reasons. And the current peace has political reasons. Those who would see us leave are using this time to strengthen their domestic support and knock off their enemies.
Ugh. The McCain answer is to stay until the end. Who's end? If we're not careful, it will be ours.
I'll repost this because it needs to be seen:
they don't call the shots (but they're in the line of fire)
